For decades, LEGO has been a favorite choice of toys for kids. Parents have always been told to encourage a child’s wonder and imagination by letting them build with these blocks.

For teacher Alycia Zimmerman, LEGO bricks are more than just playthings—they can be essential tools to teach certain maths concepts such as fractions, division and multiplication. This is especially true for kids who are more visual learners.

Take a look at some of the things you can do with LEGO to teach math to your little one.

Alycia dropped another useful tip for parents—bag LEGO pieces separately according to their sizes – like this:

This helps you to carry out your lesson plan more smoothly, ensuring that you have enough of the right materials for what you plan to teach your child.

If you give them everything all at once, the kids might get confused or too excited. (Psst, this might also prevent you from the excruciating pain of stepping on a LEGO brick when a mess is not cleared up properly.)
